Spring 2009

Welcome to the website of the  Mountains of Asheville Flute Ensemble.  We are a group of  flutists who enjoy performing in western North Carolina.  The flute ensemble was founded in 2004 and is directed by flutist Nancy Shinn (www.flutestar.com).  We have since performed at many  venues, including churches, Masonic temple, retirement communities and as the opening act to the Asheville Symphony Orchestra.

Among us we play piccolo, C flute, Eb flute, alto, bass and contrabass flute .   We play arrangements of light classics, music written especially for flute choir, Celtic tunes, hymns, jazz arrangements, and holiday favorites.  We tailor our concerts to our venue and audience;  we like playing music that is familiar to the average concert goer.

Membership in the ensemble is by audition.  At present our members include:

Nancy Shinn, Diane Amos, Sarah Cifani, Debra Callis, Bob Gustely, Leonard Lopatin,  and Janet Reinholz.

For more information either about joining or to inquire about having us perform at your business, function or community, email me, Nancy Shinn, at flutestar@earthlink.net , or phone me at 828-712-9038.   Our concerts are informal and fun events and we enjoy performing music that people know and love.  Come and join us for a new adventure in music.

We perform this spring at Deerfield Retirement Community in their Community Center.  This performance is free and open to the public on Tuesday, April 28 at 7:15.  We will also perform at the Biltmore Estate in the Walled Garden on May 9th starting at 11 a.m.  We will be performing mostly jazz arrangements, including:

. Blue Skies
. Take Five
. Puttin on the Ritz
. Satin Doll
. How High the Moon
. Alexander's Ragtime Band

and a few other tunes that will be new to you.
